Developing a practice for reflection is something I work on for my own development. It informs my practice with clients. Some people find they can unplug and think clearly about their day and the decisions they have made or need to make when doing something physical like lifting weights, running, or doing yoga. Others prefer internal practices like journaling or silent meditation. Regardless of the catalyst, the practice will yield results if done regularly. Insights come with discipline.
Many people struggle to maintain their dedication to a practice. I do too. What is important is that we all continue to return to whatever anchors our ability to think with greater clarity. Tending to our state of mind leads directly to better decision making and kinder interactions (with ourselves and others).
If our regular practice of reflection gets disrupted, we will likely forget some of what we have learned. It’s not that we don’t learn initially, but mastery only comes with intentional effort. Here, I share my notes and insights from my yoga journal as inspiration for re-integrating some powerful lessons from my practice into my daily life.
I hope my (semi-regular) practice helps inspire some new thinking for you too.
